We understand how important it is to offer top quality food and drink at your event. That’s why our catering partner, Chartwells, are passionate about providing the freshest, tastiest food for all delegates, all prepared on the DMU campus. 

Whether the event budget is large or small, Chartwells will provide an offering which is guaranteed to impress. 


Chartwells can offer a range of exciting choices to meet any requirements which includes:

  • Sandwiches, soups and snacks

  • Sharing boards

  • Finger/fork buffets

  • Salad bar

  • Sweet treats

  • Fine dining

Sustainability and Fairtrade

DMU works closely with our catering partner Chartwells to ensure that our sustainability commitments extend to the food and drink we provide through our hospitality provision. DMU has adopted a Sustainable Food Policy which has been approved by the Sustainable Development Task Force (SDTF) and the University’s Executive Board. The policy is reviewed annually and is supported by an action plan, progress against which is reported annually to the SDTF and the Executive Board. 


Chartwells look to:

  • Improve animal welfare in our supply chain through the use of appropriate assurance schemes

  • Use free range eggs and organic fresh milk where possible

  • Offer seasonal produce where possible and highlight this on our menus

  • Use all resources, including water and energy, as efficiently as possible 

  • Reduce waste from catering processes and services; 

  • Work with our catering contractors to ensure that products are from sustainable and ethical sources

  • Aim towards increasing the range where appropriate in catering outlets, vending machines and hospitality menus. 


Our progress in this area includes:

  • We have highlighted our sustainable food sourcing more prominently within our hospitality brochure

  • All our chicken is Freedom Foods approved, ensuring the birds have been kept to strict RSPCA standards

  • All tea, coffee and fruit juice provided through hospitality is Fairtrade as standard, helping to ensure that farmers around the world get a fair deal

  • We work closely with our fish and seafood suppliers, and the MSC, to ensure that every piece of fish we serve is in season, fresh and from a certified fishery.

  • We use food and herbs grown on campus where we can and provide these to staff and students.
