Places to eat and drink

You’re not going to go hungry or thirsty at DMU, that’s for sure. We’ve got cafés, restaurants and bars throughout campus, serving all kinds of food and drink from around the world.

The Food Village

In a light, spacious environment with colourful furniture, staff and students can come and order fresh pizza from our pizza oven, pasta dishes, sandwiches, fish and chips, curries, barbecued meats – food from all over the world served at various counters. The menu is varied throughout the week with speciality days (like Fish Friday) being particularly popular.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm.

The Riverside Café

Sitting on the bank of the River Soar, with stunning views along the water, the Riverside Café is open to the public and specialises in vegetarian and vegan cuisine, with meat dishes available. With outdoor seating overlooking the river, this opens the campus up to the public, creating a unique addition to Leicester’s cafe community. Alcoholic drinks available.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 10pm
Saturday and Sunday, 8.30am to 3pm

Milly Lane’s

In the heart of the Campus Centre, Milly Lane’s is run by the De Montfort Students’ Union and all proceeds go back into running student services. Selling snacks and meals, from burgers to salads, and hot, cold and alcoholic drinks, Milly Lane’s also has microwave stations for students to heat up their own food and large screen Sky TVs. It’s a classic student hang-out.

Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm

The Newarke Café

Selling Costa coffee and other hot drinks, this gathering spot in the Hugh Aston building is a good place to get a morning cuppa and a slice of cake. Lunchtime snacks and sandwiches are available throughout the day.

Friday, 7.30am to 7pm

A really local branch of the ever-popular sandwich chain, this is the easiest way to get your Meatball Marinara or BMT fix. While this branch of Subway is not Halal, there are seven stores - many in easy walking distance from campus - which are. See details here.

Staff Common Room

A coffee shop and restaurant in stylish surroundings, the Staff Common Room is open to DMU staff on a subscription basis: for an annual fee staff can access the common room and enjoy free tea, coffee and hot chocolate. A varied and creative menu serves breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Fully licensed bar serves a range of alcoholic drinks.

Campus Centre coffee shop

Just inside the main entrance of the Campus Centre, this café serves Starbucks hot drinks and a range of snacks throughout the day.

Kimberlin Library Café

Studying late into the night or at the weekends? Then the Library Café has your back. Serving hot and cold drinks and snacks, this café will keep you going as you power through some serious coursework.

Monday to Friday, 10am to 9pm
Saturday and Sunday, 10am to 4pm
