Personal profile

Bob Chaudhuri is Professor of Cancer Studies at the Leicester School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences. His background is in chemistry, molecular cell biology, molecular pharmacology and molecular toxicology. He is the Programme Leader of the MSc in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology. He spent nearly two decades in Switzerland first at Ciba-Geigy and later, after its merger with Sandoz, at Novartis before he returned to academia.

He has worked extensively in the production of biopharmaceuticals in different expression systems where patents have been granted. He has also led small-molecule discovery projects in Cardiovascular/Metabolic Diseases, Immunology/Transplantation, Oncology and the Nervous System.

His current research interests (funded by different industrial partners and Cancer Research UK) lie in the links between the cell division cycle and disease, apoptosis and disease, and development of alternative platforms for the production of recombinant cytochrome P450 enzymes results which, until now, have yielded multiple patent applications. He enjoys teaching modules related to genomics/proteomics and molecular medicine in the MPharm programme of the School of Pharmacy.
