He has previously worked for PwC; run his own training consultancy (key clients in the UK, Libya and Iran); and, was in 2006-2008 Acting Head and Deputy Head of the Division of International Business at the University of Nottingham, Ningbo, China.

Research interests/expertise

Sustainability. Environmental accounting and accountability. Chinese philosophical traditions in business. His recent PhD thesis was titled: Accountability in the context of civilization change in China and he is currently working on an abridged version for publication as a book by the University of Gothenburg. He presented two papers at international conferences in summer 2016 and is working with partners to publish papers and to set up a social movement around the “Earth Rise” theme to give his research real impact. His research mainly uses qualitative methods and takes a normative perspective. 

Areas of teaching

Teaching specialisms in sustainability accounting, environmental management and international developments in accounting and finance. He is very experienced in teaching and supervising international students and has taught in many countries around the world including South Sudan and China.

Qualifications

He qualified as a chartered accountant (ICAEW) in 1983 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics from University of York (1979); a master’s degree by research in business (accounting) from the University of Leeds (1993); and, was awarded his PhD from De Montfort University, Leicester in March 2016.
