Neil is a qualified architect. He currently teaches studio and technology. He is also an internal examiner for Part III candidates.
Prior to entering higher education in 2007, he spent several years in practice, winning a number of RIBA awards, most notably the PM's Best Public Building Award 2002 with Alec French Architects. He also spent two years with Sustrans, pursuing his interest in the design of sustainable cities, home zones, naked street design, community involvement and crime prevention; this work revolved around EU funded partner-city projects, one involving Bristol, Bremen, Nantes, Aalborg and Kaunas and the other involving Swindon, Hilversum and La Courneuve.
