I have a varied background to becoming a Design Crafts lecturer. I have two degrees, the first in Philosophy and Politics from the University of York, the second degree in 3D Design Silversmithing. As a graduate I joined three others to set up a silver jewellery design and making company.
Areas of interest:
These are based on my metalsmithing and jewellery experience and relate most to the creation of functional objects such as boxes and bowls, rings and bangles with an emphasis on form rather than decoration and colour. I enjoy working with the variety of fabrication techniques that can be used.
But involvement with other techniques has led to technical teaching of etching and colouration of metal, jewellery-scale casting and usage of the different materials found in the different workshops.
Personal work has been as a consequence of commissions, which have ranged from trophies to wedding rings.
