Personal profile

Dr Conor Curran has been awarded a Joao Havelange Research Scholarship for 2013-14. He holds a B.Ed. (hons) and an M.A. (hons) in Humanities from St Patrick’s College Dublin. He completed his Ph.D., entitled ‘Why Donegal Slept: The Development of Gaelic games in Donegal, 1884-1934’ with the International Centre for Sports History and Culture in 2012. His current research examines the migration of Irish footballers to Britain from 1945 to 2010 and he is vice-chairman of Sports History Ireland. He works as 2nd year tutor in St Patrick’s College, Dublin.

Previous work has examined the early development of Gaelic games and Association Football in Ireland and his book ‘Sport in Donegal-A History’ was published by the History Press Ireland in 2010. He is a fluent Irish speaker and is currently learning German.
