Personal profile

Chris is the programme leader for the MSc. Cultural Events Management, and lectures on the BA (Hons) Arts and Festivals Management.

Chris has been working in the area of culture and media education for twenty two years, in that time he has been involved in most aspects of the subject and its development. He joined De Montfort in 2007, having been Head of Department at both Northampton and Teesside Universities.  He specialises in cultural events and festivals management, media management, research methodologies, and documentary production.  He has published widely on the media, and media research methods, and has produced two major text books, in Approaches to Media (1995) and The Media Book (2002).

Research interests/expertise

Chris is currently working on a companion book for Focus on Festivals called Focus on World Festivals. Forthcoming with Goodfellow Publishers Ltd

Mela Festivals and other cultural community festivals.

He has researched widely on the media, working particularly on community media, media education, Cable and Satellite technology, genre and narrative in film and television, and the New Wave film movements of the 1960’s.
