Personal profile

Coming from both a Fine Art Practice and Art Theory background my previous work encompasses painting, sculpture, installation and most recently video. Working with colour, parody and politics the work is always a deliberate hyperbole. Since completing my PhD in 2015 I have focused more exclusively on academic writing. My research is combinatory, bringing together art theory, aesthetic theory, and political economy, and extending my analysis to film, literature, Science Fiction and popular culture. My approach is materialist and feminist and seeks to understand aesthetic relationships and affects under extractive capitalism. My thesis ‘Global Extraction’ sought to illuminate the way that the extractive impulse exists in myriad ways and to define the aesthetics of extraction. Exploring the way that work and leisure are increasingly blurred by digital technology, but also retrospectively understanding the role of social reproduction colonialism in supporting capitalist production as invisible ‘free’ labour and resources. My current projects are developing my thesis into a book, and writing papers on abject art, necropolitics, and the ongoing role of utopia.
