Mature applicants with alternative qualifications and relevant experience are welcome. Accreditation of prior learning will be considered. If you have an HND in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM) and relevant clinical practice you can apply for direct entry into year three of the course. Career opportunitiesYou will be employed within the NHS during the degree. Following graduation and successful accreditation with the respective professional bodies many graduates are retained as employees within the training department or move into vacant posts at other NHS facilities. ProgrammeAccredited by The Registration Council for Clinical Physiology (RCCP), this course provides the basic underpinning knowledge needed to support the requirement in both theoretical knowledge and practical competencies essential for the Healthcare Scientist working within the Clinical Physiology specialist areas of cardiac physiology, respiratory physiology, gastrointestinal physiology or neurophysiology. A common core of modules cover the areas of Anatomy and Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Information Technology, Pharmacology, Communication Skills, Psychology, and Research Methods. The course structure allows you to follow a pathway specific to your specialism. The specialist modules are of two types:

A Diploma of Higher Education (Dip HE) is available if you opt to complete your studies after two years. You may also be able to undertake the vocational component of the course only leading to the award of University Certificate of Professional Development (UCPD). Teaching/assessmentThe course comprises core and specialist modules with taught lectures, tutorials and workshops, a Clinical Research Project and the production of a Specialist subject Portfolio of Clinical Practice.
