What should I wear?

Do I have to wear academic dress?

What does my gown and hood look like?

What if I fail my degree or my circumstances change but I have already ordered my gown?

What should I wear?

Graduands are expected to dress smartly (no jeans and trainers). As the hood is secured with a loop at the front, we advise female graduands to wear a jacket, dress or blouse with buttons. Male graduands can usually secure the hood under a tie. Those dressed inappropriately may not be admitted to the ceremony.

Do I have to wear academic dress?

Yes. You will not be allowed to join the ceremony unless wearing full academic dress.

What does my gown and hood look like?

The colour of your gown and hood will depend upon the degree or diploma you have been awarded. Read our information about De Montfort University academic dress

What if I fail my degree or my circumstances change but I have already ordered my gown?

Students who no longer require their gowns should inform William Northam in writing (Henry Crabb Road, Littleport, Ely, Cambridgeshire, CB6 1SE) at least seven days before the date of the ceremony to obtain a full refund or to transfer your gown hire to the July 2018 or January 2019 ceremonies.
